Clinical Consultation

Clinical consultation for new and seasoned therapists — helping them support highly sensitive clients, provide trauma-sensitive care, address vicarious trauma, and explore professional identity

Working in private practice — or in an organizational setting that does not provide adequate support or supervision — can be isolating. Clinical consultation enhances the quality of the work we do with clients by providing a new lens through which to view clients’ struggles, understand our own reactions to the work, and determine the most effective interventions to promote positive change.

Clinical Consultation

For new and experienced therapists, consultation provides support in decoding the most complex cases and creating an effective path forward. We will focus on trauma-sensitive, comprehensive case conceptualization in order to get to the root of the places where clients struggle. You’ll learn strategies for deepening the work and be able to understand and navigate blocks in therapy as they naturally arise. I integrate EMDR Therapy, Internal Family System (IFS), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy with a humanistic, relational framework that honors the complexities of cultural context.

Consultation to Support Highly Sensitive Clients

I offer individual and group consultation for clinicians seeking greater understanding of the highly sensitive clients in their practice. Whether you are a highly sensitive therapist or the trait is new to you, I offer practical tips and fresh perspectives to create the best environment for healing.

In my chapter on working with highly sensitive clients in IFS-Informed EMDR: Creative and Collaborative Approaches, I share the importance of pacing and attention to transitions. In my book, Trusting Your Highly Sensitive Self, I offer a window into the inner world of highly sensitive people by sharing insights from my work. Consultations move beyond this foundational understanding to respectful curiosity and compassion for the specific clients with whom you’re working. Every person is unique.

LPC Clinical Supervision for Licensure Candidates

A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania, I am eligible to provide 100% of the required supervision hours to LPC Candidates and fifty percent of the required supervision hours to Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Social Work candidates. I have been providing supervision to clinicians working in diverse practice settings for more than twenty years. Understanding the influence of practice setting challenges, I provide a variety of practical strategies while always prioritizing the quality of the relationship counselors develop with clients. I invite counselors to listen deeply to clients’ stories for implicit strengths, to practice new skills through role-play, and to trust their intuition more fully.

Vicarious Trauma Consultation

The secondary impact of trauma on helpers whose work involves caring for abused, neglected, angry, and grieving people has long-term devastating effects if left unaddressed. Therapists may become numb or overemotional, self-doubting and self-critical, and troubled by physical symptoms such as sleeplessness, fatigue, headaches, and anxiety. Focusing on self-care, cultivating meaning, and setting healthy boundaries, I partner with clinicians to create a plan for greater resiliency.

Vicarious Trauma Consultation for Organizations

Organizations impacted by vicarious trauma often report low morale, staff conflicts, high absenteeism, employee turnover, and a decrease in overall program effectiveness. I work collaboratively with organization leaders to create meaningful educational programming and comprehensive intervention plans.
